Our Mission
The Goal of Ultra Strength Collective is to Train
Runners to Thrive at Mile 1, Mile 50, or Mile 100+!
"In today’s Endurance Athlete Community, many Coach’s approach to Strength Training is to rehab from running injury. Running injuries don’t happen from too much running, they happen from not enough structural strength. We are not a treatment based program, we are a preventative, proactive program hedging against injury. At Ultra Strength, we seek to build durability to never have injuries in the first place." - Coach Charley McAvoy

Here are 10 reasons why Ultra Runners need Ultra Strength:

Injury Prevention: Building strength in key muscle groups can help prevent common running injuries by improving overall biomechanics, stability and durability.

Power and Efficiency: Stronger muscles generate more power with each stride, leading to improved running efficiency, especially during uphill climbs and technical downhills.
Joint Stability: Strengthening the muscles around joints provides additional support, reducing the impact on joints and decreasing the risk of overuse injuries.
Core Stability: A strong core improves posture and stability, crucial for maintaining form during extended periods of running.

Improved Running Economy: Enhancing strength can contribute to better running economy, allowing you to cover longer distances with less energy expenditure.

Speed and Power: Strength training can contribute to improved sprinting abilities and help you tackle challenging terrain or inclines more effectively.
Endurance Improvement: Strengthening muscles enhances your ability to maintain good form during long-distance runs, delaying the onset of fatigue.

Muscle Balance: Strength training helps address muscle imbalances, reducing the risk of overuse injuries and promoting a more symmetrical running stride
Mental Toughness: The mental resilience developed through strength training can be beneficial during the mental challenges of ultra-distance running.
Recovery Enhancement: Strengthening exercises, when combined with proper recovery strategies, can help reduce muscle soreness and expedite recovery after long
runs.

"You have to experience Charley", his clients would say. His fellow runners call him "The HoneyBadger".

SAGE BURGENER
Sage Burgener is a mom of two beautiful children and a strength and conditioning coach.
She has been involved in the sport of Olympic weightlifting for 30 years. Her coaching career began at the age of 15 (19 years ago) and her love for teaching others continues to grow with each passing year.

Those who know her, know she has a deep love for training. She has spent decades throwing herself into the fire of multiple different fitness realms (Olympic weightlifting, CrossFit and ultra running) just to see what she can learn about herself.

Throughout that journey, Sage's coaching methodology has continued to grow and evolve. Her deepest goal is to continually learn and to take what she learns and pass it on to those who are like her... obsessed with exploring the depths of themselves through sport and physical feats.

The athletes she loves to coach are not the world champions, or the elite level competitors. The athletes that fuel her soul are the athletes with maturity, perspective and a deep love for training. They're the ones that know that we don't train to qualify for that one competition/race... we train to become better humans.

She mentors coaches, she coaches athletes remotely and she teaches one day Olympic weightlifting seminars. However, her deepest passion is holding her Bad Bitch Camps: a weekend fitness retreat for women where they dive deep into their physical selves so they can dive even deeper into their spiritual selves.

"The Burgener Way has always been about giving back and helping others see/reach their true potential...because that's what life is all about. That's why I'm here. And I'm here for you." - Sage Burgener
